One for the Money... Two for the Show!

It's been a very long time since we ventured into the excellent era of 80's Eclipse terror-tory stories, so here's a fun little two-parter featuring the same story set-up in each, but with two brutally different, outrageous outcomes! Written by Bruce Jones (of course), and featuring some really great cartooning by Bill Wray, this short but sweet "Choose Your Favorite Climax" combo is still packed with plenty of meat, and is a real horror hoot for you giggling gore fans! From the December 1984 issue of Twisted Tales #10, and highlighted with a perfectly putrid cover painting by joltin' John Pound!

Vampire Fangs (of Doom)

We've had a pretty full month of monsters this March: mummies, martians, ghosts, mannequins-- so howz'about we throw a vampire into the murderous mix too, shall we? Okay, now the Wood / Orlando cover of the August - September 1951 issue of Dark Mysteries #2 actually says "Vampire Fangs of Doom", but the story inside is simply called "Vampire Fangs." No worries though, the story itself still contains plenty of fangtastic doom --whichever way you sink your teeth into it! And after the story, head over to AEET where another lurid old vampire theme appears to be lurking around...

The Ghost of Bob James

A good friend of mine was paying me a really nice compliment last week about my GHOSTS book (still available HERE if you don't already own it), and while talking about it, I was reminded of a Dave Berg scream dream story that I had wanted to use in the book, but unfortunately, just didn't make the final edit in time. Yes, THAT Dave Berg. And dagnabbit, I totally thought I had it here in the THOIA Archive as well, but turns out it's yet another oddball spooky crime creeper that just sort of slipped through the cracks of the crumbling old crypt, --so now here it is! And speaking of spooks, you can read another great Dave Berg spook-o-rama from a few years back over at AEET right HERE after today's Bulletman filler freak-out, because yep, you read that right-- this was originally featured in the Nov. '42 issue of Bulletman #9.

With Intent to Kill

One more killer tale from the March 1953 issue of Suspense #28, and it's a Maneely / Stan Lee team-up with a super hot ending to boot! Also, big bad Bill Everett returns with a screamingly superb cover illustration as well!

The Poor Fish!

Boy, some Bill Everett fan I've turned out to be! Nearly 17 years into this #%@ blog, and I've never posted one of his most brutally bonkers tales of all time! There is of course another tale with the same title in the THOIA Archive (HERE!), but this one definitely deserves its own rightful time to shine! From the March 1953 issue of Suspense #28, and written by good 'ol Stan the (fisher)Man of course too! 'Nuff said...

The Mummy's Curse

I guess it's been a while since we've had a Mummy Monday around here, so time now for a fun but typically clunky Star Comics attempt at some ancient horror. GCD is as clueless as I am about who the artist of this tale could be, but even if he hadn't signed his name, we'd immediately recognize the unmistakable black light poster-esque mastery of L.B. Cole on the cover. From the May 1953 issue of Spook #24.

The Prophecy / The Black Candle

Queue up some Motorhead and prepare yourself for a quick and very vicious tale from the joltin' January 1954 issue of Out of the Shadows #11, featuring a scruffy but cool art collaboration by Jack Katz and Vince Colleta. And since it's kind of short, I went ahead and added a one-page Gene Fawcette quickie from the same great issue. "Read 'em and weep, the dead man's hand again..."
